Living Well - 7 Diffuser Blends for Your Week

Diffusing is a great way to get started with essential oils and discover your preferences. Different oils and oil blends can help create a variety of scents and moods. You are never going to know what you like (and don’t like) unless you experiment. Before I was comfortable putting oils directly on my skin (be sure to read the bottle, some oils are WAY too strong and need to be diluted with a carrier oil) using a diffuser was how I first learned what I liked (and don’t like.)

Getting Started with Diffusing

During the first week try starting with 2-3 drops in the diffuser total and only diffused for short periods of time. The second week, increase the oils used around 3-4 drops total and increased the amount of time diffused. By the third week, you should be up to around 4-6 drops in the diffuser and run the machine for longer periods of time during the day and evening. Of course, the amount of oil you diffuse – and how often – is a matter of personal preference and room size.

Lavender & Peppermint

Lavender and peppermint have been my “go-to” diffuser mix for a very long time. Whenever I need a quick boost of energy I tend to put a bit more peppermint and whenever I need a bit more calm I add more drops of lavender. The greatest thing about this mix is that depending on the ratio of essential oils you use, you can drastically change the mood of the room!

Lemon and Peppermint

If you are in need of a huge boost of energy, try mixing lemon and peppermint essential oils in a diffuser, crank your favorite “sing along song” to 11 and dance like no one is watching (even if they are!) This is the blend I tend to gravitate to when I need to get motivated to clean the house!

Purification and Lemon

I actually diffuse this combination of Purification and lemon in my car (my kids have a bad habit of leaving stinky things in the back seat!) My trick is to take a cotton ball with a few drops of each oil and place it in an old glass votive candle holder stashed in a cup holder.

Lavender, Lemon, and Peppermint

Three oils at once?! That’s crazy! It’s not really –  most of the blends come with between 3-6 oils blended in different ratios so why not start experimenting with your own? Lavender, lemon, and peppermint together – in whatever ratio of drops you feel like – can work wonders to set (or change) a mood in the room.

Lavender & Lemon

There is something very “summer” about combining lavender and lemon essential oils. It reminds me of Honey Lavender Lemonade. The soothing feeling I get from lavender and the refreshing feeling I get from lemon are the perfect balance to start my day with energy and peace.

Lavender and Stress Away

Ever have a day where if just one more thing goes wrong you are going to scream your head off? Yeah, me too. I really try to keep my stress in check but we all know there are days that you just can’t control the outside world. That’s when I lock myself in my office (I am lucky enough to have an office all to myself in the house far away from everyone else!) and diffuse lavender and Stress Away. Honestly, the Stress Away has lavender in it already, but in my opinion, everything is better with more! Stress Away contains lime, cedarwood, and vanilla (among other oils) and smells amazing!

Thieves and Lemon

AFTER I’m through cleaning I like to add a bit of Thieves Vitality and Lemon Vitality (these Vitality oils come in the premium starter kit and are just as good to diffuse as they are to take internally according to the package directions) to a diffuser. The Thieves Blend has an entire line of ready-made cleaning products (DIY recipes coming soon!) so using the oil after scrubbing counters helps reinforce the clean!
